Fundamental and Applied Thermodynamics

The Thermodynamics range is extremely broad, covering topics such as properties of fluids, heat and work transfer.

One of the most popular applications of thermodynamic principles is found in internal combustion engines and gas turbines. Until “green” technologies are sufficiently developed these machines will continue to dominate the way we produce power and travel. A key goal to moving forward is to improve their performance and efficiency –
making the most of our limited resources – so future engineers need to have a sound, basic understanding of the thermodynamic principles of these machines and how they work in reality. Therefore, TecQuipment offers a range of equipment that clearly demonstrates internal combustion engines and gas turbines that is economic, easy to use
and specifically designed for student use.

Modular Fluid Power

Equipment in the innovative Modular Fluid Power (MFP) machines also links in to the Thermodynamics range. The Reciprocating Compressor Module (MFP104) and Centrifugal Compressor (MFP105) show thermodynamic principles, in addition to the pumps, turbines and fans in the range. An interchangeable dynamometer drives all MFP products. Each machine includes all the instruments needed to measure its performance.

Automatic Data Acquisition

To make the best use of laboratory time, many of our thermodynamics products are available either with custom-made automatic data acquisition software, or are compatible with TecQuipment’s unique Versatile Data Acquisition System (VDAS®).

The MFP104 allows students to study and perform tests on a reciprocating compressor to understand how it works and calculated its performance. The GT103 show how single and two-stage compressors work, and their thermodynamic properties.

The Marcet Boiler Experiment teaching apparatus is an experimental apparatus to derive the temperature pressure relationship for saturated steam, and verify the Antoine Equation and the Steam Motor And Energy Conversion apparatus is a laboratory-scale steam plant that shows fundamental thermodynamic principles of energy conversion, and mechanical power measurement. Both work with VDAS.
