Recently one of the USA’s largest engineering schools, Texas A&M University, invested in a new engineering education complex that would revolutionize the way they teach their 20,000 engineering students. One element of this new complex was a new model for laboratories that would allow them to fully utilize equipment and space by creating “common labs”, shared facilities within Zachry Engineering Education Complex completed in 2018. The new building was only part of the story; they invested heavily in new teaching equipment to be housed in this facility, including a vast range of practical engineering teaching products from TecQuipment.

East Tennessee State University, which has a history of teaching engineering technology dating back to the 1930s, made the decision to expand the course offering in 2015 to include a BSc in General Engineering which combines courses from mechanical, civil and electrical engineering. To teach the course they needed an engineering laboratory that had the equipment to practically teach the principles of civil and mechanical engineering. There were existing electrical engineering laboratories, to serve the BSc, in the electrical engineering technology program. After going out to bid, TecQuipment won, based on a balance between price and functionality of the equipment.

“We chose TecQuipment because they ticked all the boxes and some more. They were great to work with from start to finish, from initial discussions at ASEE 2016 in New Orleans through to the more recent installation, training and commissioning in August 2018. Even when we encountered problems, the Lab Midwest team and TecQuipment dealt with the situation with smiles and joyfulness,” explained Rachel Friesen, Lab Technician at the University of Northwestern.
