Coriolis Force
A highly visual demonstration of the Coriolis Force on a jet of water.
In this video, we will be demonstrating the Coriolis Force apparatus, the TM1017, which is one of the latest products in the Theory of Machines range from TecQuipment. This is a portable self-contained benchtop base unit supporting a rotating arm with a transparent water tank and counterbalance mounted on top.
The Coriolis force is one of three fictitious forces, which affect the motion of an object in a rotating frame of reference. Fictitious forces are unreal forces that arise from motion and can seem real. This is why physicists often refer to the Coriolis effect rather than the force, in order to distinguish the effect from the cause.
